Never did I think that I would be saying this, but here goes…. I am running in the 2024 Boston Marathon with my friend Jess. September 2022 I decided I needed to lose weight and started once again working out twice a week with Melissa Abbott, MS, BCHN®, CPT, my Holistic Health & Wellness Professional and personal friend. To date I have lost over 50lbs. I started to research running in the Marathon and realized the only way for me was to join a team that raised money.
I applied to Tedy’s Team, as my wife Tina had a stroke in 2009 and we know how important it is that everyone should be educated on symptoms of stroke and heart disease. Like Tedy, she had a congenital birth defect, known as a patent foramen ovale (PFO) which is a hole in the heart that closes shortly after birth but theirs did not. They were both treated at the same hospital in MA by the same doctor for a procedure to close the PFO. It was amazing to get the phone call that I was accepted to Tedy’s Team.
I am now working with a Strength Trainer Katie Rich three days a week along with my physical trainer to increase my stamina, mental wellbeing, and strength during my journey to April 15, 2024. I am thrilled to be able to make this marathon journey at 70 years with my friend Jess. We will both be working to raise money for Tedy’s Team that supports stroke and heart disease survivors and their families and South Shore Health, an organization that provides cancer care at Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center at SSH.
I am a mother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin who loves my family. I have been a full time Firefighter for the last 19 years. I am a part-time fire protection specialist for the NH State Fire Marshal’s Office.
My friend John said one day that he would like to run in the Boston Marathon. Without hesitation I said, “I would do that with you!” Here we are just a few months later both running in the 2024 Boston Marathon for wonderful charities. I will be raising money for those with cancer. I have had 3 family members pass away from cancer and a friend who died way too young of metastatic breast cancer. I will be running in their memory.
I have been an athlete all my life and my love to stay active and busy when I am not working is both a gift and a curse. I am always looking for the next event to train for or do.
I am excited for this journey and to raise money for South Shore Health an organization that provides cancer care to patients at Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center at SSH and helping John reach his goal of finishing the 2024 Boston Marathon while raising money for Tedy’s Team who support stroke and heart disease survivors and their families.
